Founded in 1941, Desai's started out as a General Trading Store by Mr Cassim Amod Desai. Over the years the business added on a livestock trading section, grain stores, butchery, furniture store and tearoom servicing the general Marianhill area. This was in addition to groceries and fruit and veg that was bought in bulk and distributed to surrounding rural stores.

In the late 1980's, construction began on a complete shopping centre housing a large new supermarket incorporating some of the above under 1 roof as well as several new stores. Desai's General Hardware was born out of this development and Mr. Mahomed Desai converted the original trading store into what is now Desai's General Hardware.

From humble beginnings with just 1 delivery vehicle the business started out. Mr Desai focused on customer service and efficient delivery with the thought that "Everything is Possible".

Within a few short years the business grew to encompass a storage warehouse and yard as well as a larger fleet of 3 trucks. A Block Manufacturing Yard was added to the enterprise.

By 1999 the staff had grown to 23 and the business had shown exceptional growth. A decision was taken to focus on sales and distribution. In line with this decision, the blockyard was sold. In 2006, a decision was made to upgrade the fleet of vehicles.

Over a period of 3 years the fleet was upgraded and increased to 13 vehicles and staff now number over 50. Everything is still possible with a focus on service, price and quality. Desai's General Hardware will never let you down.
